Dr. Stephen Kovar

Dr. Stephen Kovar has been part of the My Dentist family since 2008 and brings decades of clinical experience, teaching, and dental leadership to his practice. He is committed to helping patients make informed decisions about their oral health and providing thoughtful care grounded in experience, continued education, and attention to individual needs.

Dr. Kovar completed his undergraduate studies in Biomedical Sciences at Montana State University in Bozeman before earning his dental degree with honors from Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry in 1995. He then completed a general practice hospital dental residency at the Wadsworth/UCLA VA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He also earned a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, a professional distinction recognizing additional commitment to continuing dental education.

Before settling in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Dr. Kovar practiced with Kaiser Permanente in Portland, Oregon, where he served as a Professional Dental Director overseeing a multidisciplinary clinical team. He also maintained a private practice and served as an Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry at Oregon Health Sciences University, teaching both clinical and preclinical dentistry.

Dr. Kovar has a particular interest in biologic dentistry and strives to incorporate thoughtful treatment approaches informed by ongoing education and current dental research. He has pursued continuing education beyond state requirements, including extensive study in biologic dentistry, and earned certification as a biologic dentist through the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine.

His broad clinical background and commitment to lifelong learning inform his approach to helping patients understand their dental needs and explore appropriate treatment options.

Outside the office, Dr. Kovar enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and visiting Disneyland. He also enjoys singing along to the radio, even if he admits his singing may not be his greatest talent.
