The Holistic Exam

Holistic Dentistry, sometimes referred to as Biological Dentistry, focuses on the patient’s overall health. We emphasize the use of non-toxic restorative material for dental work. Our practice focuses on the often overlooked impact of hidden dental infection on a patient’s entire health. We educate you as we do the dental exam,  reviewing your whole health picture, then consult with you on any recommendations for improved health.

Here is a brief description of the philosophy and general holistic dental exam we provide you:

Key Benefits
By taking into consideration the whole person’s balance of physical, environmental, mental, emotional and spiritual needs, you receive more complete dental health evaluation and treatment.

You realize overall health improvement with the discovery of unrecognized dental toxins and hidden dental infection.

We use non-toxic materials reducing potential health problems.

Capabilities

We make extensive efforts to individualize your dental treatment based on your overall health needs. Whether it be as simple as a cleaning or a wide range of more extensive treatments we integrate your care to tailor your dental treatment to you. Each and every dental exam includes the following:

  • Complete dental clinical examination.
  • As a new patient, you receive a thorough medical and dental review. We do a full set of X-rays. Your X-rays include a cone beam computed tomography with 16 to 18 individual radiographs of the teeth and supporting structures.
  • Periodontal and soft tissue evaluation.
  • We examine the health of your gums.

Oral Cancer Screening

Another important part of the Holistic Exam includes a complete oral soft tissue examination. The American Cancer Society recommends that patients get the soft tissue exam at least once a year.

Oral cancer is one of the most curable diseases when it’s caught early. And that’s why a simple exam has been developed using technology that has been proven successful in identifying other types of precancerous abnormalities. This exam is particularly important for patients with increased risk factors for oral cancer.

When oral cancer is found at the earliest stage, treatment is quicker, simpler, less invasive, and more than 90% successful.

Many reports suggest that head and neck cancer, and particularly tongue cancer, is increasing among young adults.

This annual exam, in combination with a conventional visual exam, provides a comprehensive oral screening procedure for patients at risk for oral cancer.

Cancer Prescreening Exam

OralID uses a proven, optically based technology called, “fluorescence technology.” OralID’s fluorescence technology uses a blue light (435–460 nm) that provides the clinician an aid in visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities, such as oral cancer and pre-cancer.

Many reports suggest that head and neck cancer, and particularly tongue cancer, is increasing among young adults.

This bi-annual exam, in combination with a conventional visual exam, provides a comprehensive oral screening procedure for patients at risk for oral cancer.
