What is skin contact infrared therapy?

Infrared photo-energy is invisible light energy. “Infra” means beyond, and infrared rays arc just beyond th red portion of the visible light spectrum, thus we cannot see them as light or color. The infrared photo-energy produced by the therapy is absorbed by the body. There is also a warmth component to the therapy. The infrared system used in this office consists of four flexible pads which are placed directly in contact with your skin. Each pad has 60 super luminous diodes which emit the infrared photo-energy. This treatment has been cleared by the FDA and is state of the art technology. This system is also being used at many hospitals and therapy and rehabilitation clinics in the US. There are no known negative side effects from the treatment, and it has been used in the US over the past seven years with a success rate of over 98%. Patients who are pregnant or who might be pregnant and patients with active malignancy (cancer) should avoid this and all other therapies.

What are the benefits of Infrared Therapy Systems?

As the infrared photo-energy treats the injured areas, it begins several processes which include the following beneficial effects…

  • Reduced swelling
  • Reduced pain levels
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Decreased muscle spasm
  • Increased range of motion
  • Increased blood circulation
  • Increased lymphatic drainage
  • Decreased overall treatment time
  • Decreased tension and tightness in muscles

How long will each infrared treatment take?

Each treatment is generally 45 minutes for chronic and rehabilitation situations, and 30 minutes for acute injury. Treatments are normally scheduled every second or third day, for three to six visits. After each third visit, an evaluation is done to determine if any additional treatments are necessary. Home systems are sometimes recommended for short–term lease, or prescribed for patient purchase.
